My mighty blanket

When we think of protection many things pop to our mind. For the more sexually active, a condom. For the ones packed with adrenaline, a kevlar vest. Paranoia keeping you down? An underground bunker. Not many people however think of blankets as a means of protection. The magical one from Harry Potter? Nope. One made of titanium fibers? Nah, it’s 100% cotton, mind you.
A blanket is simply put, the best multipurpose all-round protective device. Has madness entered the depths of my mind you wonder? A question you must answer yourself. I, however am talking from experience here!
It was the beginning of the 21st Century, the year 2001. I was a decade and a half younger. It was around 8 pm. My regular session of watching evening cartoons had ended half an hour ago. My 4 year old self was ready to prance around the world of dreams. It was as dark as blind man’s vision and we all know that it is in the dark, when your mind enjoys playing tricks on you. Imagining things that aren’t really there like a hobgoblin. Combined with the imagination of a child, horrors ensue. An adult Is as equally useless against the powers of the unknown as a child. But a child has a unique thinking process. In this case my mind had thought, that a blanket would be effective against the powers of darkness. That indescribable monster, creeping towards me is powerless against my mighty blanket, I kept telling myself. I was under it’s powerful protection, curled up, much like a newborn baby. Yet, nowhere near as powerless. I felt like a knight fighting a peasant. As the Night presses on, I slept comfortably like a fetus under the blanket. The monster growing desperate as the dark cover of night started to slowly fade away. In retrospect, i feel a certain level of sympathy for our poor antagonist. After all, our monster was born a monster, it didn’t choose it’s life. It simply can’t help the fact that it feeds on frightened children. Nevertheless as the morning sun swept away the darkness of the night, I woke up. Safely under my blanket, with the monster gone. So when you think of protection, do not let yourselves be fooled. Instead of protecting yourself against threats with lame items, such as a kevlar vest, pick up a blanket. For a blanket will make you immune to the dangers of both the real and imaginary world alike, much like a cockroach is immune to a nuclear blast.
